rode wijn

Dit is geen wijnblog, maar een bierblog. Maar soms toch wel eens iets anders proberen. Bier na wijn geeft venijn, of is het fijn? Bier na wijn geeft plezier of wijn na bier?

Geen idee, maar deze fles stond al een hele tijd in de kelder. Nog van een kerstpakket, of presentje van de een of de ander misschien. Geen idee waar het vandaan was gekomen, of hoe lang het er al stond. Geen idee wat het was, maar het was een Spaanse wijn. Dat was duidelijk.

Of het uniek is weet ik niet. Het is de eerste rode wijn die ik sinds jaren drink. Het is een Spaanse wijn met een Hema-achtig etiket met daarop het kitscherige  'My favorite red wine'. De Spaanse ondertitel is:  Embotelladon por crianza y vinedos santo cristo s.coop .50570 Espana Produce of Spain R.E.N. 943/Z. 

Als ik daarop zoek vind ik een onleesbaar verhaal?

Crianzas y viñedos Santo Cristo S. Coop. de Ainzón, fue fundada en 1.945 como resultado de la asociación de viticultores de los municipios de Ainzón, Bureta, Albeta y Vera de Moncayo.

Desde sus inicios ha sido pionera en la elaboración de vinos de calidad embotellados. En 1.978 se reglamenta la D.O. "Campo de Borja" con el objeto de conseguir para esta zona, dentro de la que se encuentran los municipios que forman esta Bodega, un reconocimiento al esfuerzo de sus viticultores y a la calidad de sus vinos, concediéndose definitivamente en 1.980 la Denominación de Origen.

Numerosas inversiones en los últimos años están dotando a la Bodega de la tecnología necesaria para elaborar vinos de gran calidad. De rode wijn die ik drink heeft tannines, maar het is vlakker dan bij een bier. Ook saaier, het is niet echt fruitig of volle smaak. Misschien is deze wijn al wat ouder? En is daardoor de smaak verlopen? 

De kleur is zwart-rood. De geur is wijnachtig. Het mondgevoel is in eerste instantie waterig, maar meteen trekt tannine de boel strak. De smaak om te herkennen is onduidelijk. Ik ben daar erg slecht in om aardse tonen, rood fruit of steenvruchten te gaan benoemen. Het is rode wijn, maar hoe te beschrijven?  Geen idee hoe ik de smaak zou moeten beschrijven.

Nogne Roaring Forties (16,5%)

Maar dit is geen muziekblog, maar een bierblog. De oplettende lezer zal wellicht al de tag quadrupel hebben gezien. Ik schonk net een Nogne Roaring Forties Red Wine B.A Quadruple. Het bier schenkt mooi. Het is zwart bier met een bruin schuim dat heel snel verdwijnt. Het drinkt makkelijk weg. Dat ik bewust stop vanwege de hoge promillage. Daarna komt een alcoholafdronk met een branderig gevoel dat blijft hangen. Wat is het voor bier? 

Het ruikt niet zoals pils of blond bier, maar de geur doet denken aan drop of koude koffie. 

Nogne Roaring Forties Red Wine B.A Quadruple is een bijzonder bier uit Noorwegen, gebrouwen door de ambachtelijke brouwerij Nøgne. Dit bier is een quadrupel die 20 maanden heeft gerijpt op Amerikaanse zinfandelvaten. Het resultaat is een complex en intens bier met een diepe robijnrode kleur en een beige schuimkraag. Het aroma van Nogne Roaring Forties Red Wine B.A Quadruple is rijk en gelaagd, met tonen van karamel, gedroogd fruit, eikenhout, rode wijn, vanille, chocolade en geroosterde mouten. Tja toch nog even over dat bier Nogne Roaring Forties Red Wine B.A Quadruple. Het drinkt zoals gezegd heel makkelijk weg. Het gebrek aan carbonatie valt op. De branderigheid in de afdronk ook. Het zit in mijn hoofd nu... De smaak is echter niet echt een avontuur. Het zit misschien in het feit dat het één van de zwaarste bieren is die ik ooit gedronken heb. Het tikte echter heel eenvoudig weg, te eenvoudig eigenlijk.

Monte Cristo II

Zo een 2 jaar geleden proefde ik een Monte Cristo (ziehttps://biervat.blogspot.com/2022/01/de-graaf-van-monte-cristo-11-weken.html). Dat beviel goed gezien de afsluiting van het blogbericht "Ik merk in Monte Cristo geen gist of noten op. Maar het is wel een lekker bier, dat wellicht kan dienen als een soort 'opstapje' naar sherry, port of cognac of iets dergelijks.". 

Ik kocht het dit jaar wederom. En de smaak is wederom top. Het is zoet, maar geen snoep. Het heeft wat tannine van rode wijn, maar niet overheersend. Het is niet alcoholerig of waterig, maar heeft een lekker mondgevoel. In de afdronk herken ik rode wijn. Het bier heeft weinig koolzuur of hopbitterheid. Ik sta nog steeds achter mijn veoordeling van twee jaar geleden:

"Ja, dit is echt een gerstewijn!  De geur is lekker, althans vind ik lekker. De smaak vind ik ook prettig. Het is zoet en niet echt bitter. De alcohol doet wat desertachig aan. De carbonatie doet denken aan wijn. Maar dan zoeter. Mondgevoel en de afdronk en nasmaak doen echt denken aan wijn. Monte Cristo is een donker en intens bier dat elf weken heeft gerijpt op eikenhouten vaten. Daarnaast is er sherry aan het bier toegevoegd. Het resultaat is een degustatiebier met en geweldige balans en tonen van vanille en noten. Monte Cristo heeft een eigen glas van zeer bescheiden formaat. Dit complexe bier is gebrouwen om rustig van te genieten. Het kleine glas helpt het drinktempo vertragen, opdat je alle smaken en aroma's in alle rust tot je kunt nemen. Brouwerij Bosteels staat bekend om enkele iconen van bieren, zoals de zeer geliefde Tripel Karmeliet, een bier dat behoort tot de beste tripels die bestaan. Ook het befaamde Kwak bier is afkomstig van deze brouwerij. De faam verwierf het bier met het bijzondere koetsiersglas, waarbij het bier in je gezicht “kwakt”, wanneer je onvoorzichtig drinkt. Ten slotte is er nog het bijzondere bier Deus Brut des Flandres. Een bier dat na het brouwen een heuse Champagne behandeling ondergaat, zodat er een sprankelend bier wordt voortgebracht. Wanneer deze brouwerij een nieuw bier uitbrengt is dat dus niet zomaar een nieuw bier. Wat is Monte Cristo voor bier? Monte Cristo is een gerstewijn, dat elf weken heeft gerijpt op houten vaten. Tevens is er sherry aan toegevoegd. Het resultaat is een zeer stevig donker bier met een alcohol percentage van 11,5%. De smaak is naar verluid rijk en complex, met toetsen van hazelnoot, hout, wijn, warme vijgen en karamel. Het bier heeft ook zijn eigen bijbehorende glas, dat meer wegheeft van een whiskyglas dan van een bierglas. De fles van 33 cl kun je dan ook niet in een keer leeggieten in het glas. Ik heb het via een glas van La Chouffe gedronken dus ik kon de fles ineens leeggieten. Het opdrinken ging ook vrij vlot. Had weinig met degusteren te maken eigenlijk. Met 11,5 % misschien niet zo slim, maar het heeft niet het effect wat je vaak hebt bij dit soort zware bieren, dat het naar je hoofd gaat.

Op zich zijn het dat soort anekdotes die het goed doen. Dat is ook de meerwaarde bij Kwak. Toen ik een keer een buitenlandse vriend een goed bier wilde laten proeven in Amsterdam koos ik de Kwak van de bierlijst. Helaas hadden ze het bijbehorende glas niet. Ja, dan is het verhaal enkel een verhaal. Jammer.

Hier heb ik ook een beetje dat de biermix niet zo veel met de roem van de roman te maken. Het is eigenlijk geen bier want het bier is gemengd met wijn (6%) en sherry (8%). Het smaakt op zich ook wel als en milde wijn. Hoort het dan bij het biervak?  Of hoort het te staan bij wijn?
